Fix for Opticon OPN scanning issue #
Opticon 'OPN' scanners will occasionally not correctly send 'carriage return' after an item is scanned. Users must then pop up the keyboard and press 'Return' to enter the scanned item and continue.
To fix this problem, the scanner must be re-programmed. In most cases, scanning the "Data then CR" barcode on this barcode sheet will fix the problem. If scanning the barcode does not fix the problem, please carefully follow the procedure below.
Download and print Quick Start Guide #
Print this so you can scan the barcodes: Quick start guide, cropped.
Disconnect #
- Make sure any devices paired with the scanner forget (not just disconnect) the scanner. To do this, tap the (i) button to the right of the scanner device name in the iPad's Settings/Bluetooth menu, then tap 'Forget This Device'. Do this for all devices in range that have been previously paired with the scanner.
Connect #
- Scan the first code in step 1 of the printed quick start sheet. There will be a pause before you can move to the next step.
- Scan the second code in step 1.
- Hold the Clear/Function button (the small button on your OPN-2002 scanner) as instructed in Step 2 until the light on the scanner starts flashing.
- The device ID will display in Settings -> Bluetooth on your iPad. Tap the ID to select the device.
- A prompt to enter a 4-digit number will display and the scanner beam will turn on. Scan the number barcodes in the Step 3 section of the document to enter the four numbers. Move the scanner beam in from the side to be sure you scan the correct digits.
- Scan the END barcode after the 4 digits have been scanned.
The scanner should now work correctly and sent the return/enter character after each scan.
