Overview #
Trade names are used to group products into the top level brands and styles, that your company distributes. Your eCat users can use tradename filters to show or hide trade names on their iPads depending on the sales situation. When setting up users you can also choose which trade names are downloaded to a user’s iPad. This is useful for managing situations where multiple reps carry different parts of your line in the same geographical area.
Collections are sub-groupings of products under a trade name. Each collection is associated with one trade name. Collections are normally used to further subdivide your product line by style or to group products which 'match' each other. When setting up users you can optionally choose which collections are downloaded to a user’s iPad. This can be useful for managing territories where multiple reps carry different parts of your line.
Setting up tradenames and collections #
Use the “New Trade Name” and “New Collection” buttons under 'Products > Tradenames & Collections' in the admin portal to create trade names and collections before importing the product file. This is done by associating codes with labels. (Does not apply if tradenames and collections are automatically created for your company during file import.) Then add tradename and collection codes to the appropriate product file fields and import the file.
Display sequence: Trade names and collections are displayed on the iPad in the same sequence in which they appear on the admin site. There are two ways to change the display sequence. If the list of trade names and collections has fewer than 40-50 items, click the ‘handle’ to the left of the name and drag it to the new position. For long lists, click the ‘Reorder’ button, enter new position numbers in the boxes that appear to the left of the name, then click the ‘Done Reordering’ button. The items will be moved to their new positions.
NOTE! The “Delete” button permanently deletes the collection, or the trade name and all of its associated collections. There is no “undo”!
